Private Work Gallery
Finlayson has regularly exhibited private work in solo and group shows since 1976.
His private work relies on expressive impression and improvisation during production. To these ends his work here is different in approach than to his commercial and public mural activities which require intense preparation, external communications and direct reproduction from scale design.
He deliberately leaves those over-clothes outside the studio door and enters a creative experience that, in his own words,"Is connected in a dimension that lacks formality, is timeless, multi-level, uncorrupted and non-judgemental. Beautifully scary for ones senses of control".
Subjective imagery evolves from his experience in the real world. Urban settings, landscape, portrait or still life elements are re-arranged by surreal or peculiar influences within the composition.
The following selection of artwork also includes recent work that incorporates exaggerated cultural
motif characteristics and the use of 'Pyrotechnical drawing' (drawing with fire).
